Les tapisseries sont nettoyées sur un très fin tamis.
Elles font d’abord l’objet d’un dépoussiérage minutieux, avers et revers, avec un aspirateur à filtre absolu (H.E.P.A.) et variateur de puissance, muni de brosses de différents types, soie de porc, poil de chèvre ou crin de cheval.

Nettoyage en milieu aqueux

Si le test préalable sur les couleurs le permet, la pièce est lavée de façon appropriée. La tapisserie est posée à plat sur un tamis et le nettoyage s’effectue par pulvérisation par le dessus. L’eau utilisée est de l’eau de ville adoucie (taux de calcaire TH = 0), additionnée de tensioactifs en concentration contrôlée. La conductivité et le pH de l’eau de lavage sont mesurés régulièrement tout au long de l’opération.

L'eau de lavage d'une tapisserie analysée au cours du nettoyage — Des prélèvements d’eau sont réalisés jusqu’à obtenir une eau la plus pure possible, avec un PH neutre.

La tapisserie est laissée à plat sur le tamis après le lavage, afin d’assurer une bonne circulation de l’air, et n’est plus déplacée avant son séchage complet. Dans nos ateliers le séchage s’opère par une déshydratation de l’air ambiant. La température est maintenue entre 20 et 25° pour éviter le feutrage des laines et la cristallisation des soies. Désinsectisation par anoxie

Pour le contrôle des parasites et nuisibles (notamment des mites), le traitement en anoxie statique pratiqué dans notre atelier permet l’élimination de ces nuisibles.
Bobin Tradition est ainsi intervenu dans le cadre de l’opération « Entretien des tapisseries de La Pintière » (ensemble de quinze pièces) de l’UCO, université d’Angers.

En cas de taches particulièrement rebelles l’emploi d’une table aspirante permet une amélioration de la zone à traiter.
D’autres techniques, adaptées au type de taches, sont possibles : lorsqu’il s’agit, par exemple, d’éliminer des fientes d’oiseau ou des taches de goudron sur une tapisserie ancienne…
